How To Choose The Right Kind Of Bird Feeder

Types of Bird Feeders.

Owning and caring for a pet bird is deeply gratifying. Keeping your bird happy and healthy depends on the way you care for them. When considering bird nutrition, finding the right bird feeder makes it easier than ever to get your birds the nutrition they need.

Every Bird Is Unique

An important aspect of bird ownership is recognizing that all birds are different. This means that each pet bird has their own unique set of tastes, preferences, and opinions about certain things, especially food. Sure, they can be messy, but their highly selective tasting process can also be a fun thing to witness (and be a part of).

Keeping It Interesting

Pet birds really like variety. To keep them interested in your feeder, aim for a delicious array of any of the following:

  • Seeds
  • Nuts
  • Brown rice
  • Barley
  • Oats
  • Banana
  • Mango
  • Citrus like orange or kiwi
  • Melon
  • Papaya
  • Snow peas
  • Parsley
  • Cucumber
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Shredded carrot
  • Pellets in different sizes, shapes, colors, and size

Pet Bird Feeders and Dishes

There are so many different feeding set-ups out there, and most should fit very well with your bird’s cage and their feeding preferences. Check out items like multi-dish perch, ceramic crock, or this seed/water cup. Be sure to have plenty of fresh water inside the cage and replenish if the water ever gets food in it.

Pet Bird’s Caloric Needs

Owners should try to keep dishes and feeders as clean as possible. Remove any food that hasn’t been touched and replace with other choices to meet your pet bird’s caloric needs. Don’t allow food to stay untouched inside their cage for more than 4 hours. Try to serve less food in the future to save your product and keep interest strong.

Bird Feeding

Maintaining a hygienic and interesting habitat for your pet bird is probably always going to be a work in progress. You want to continually provide opportunities for enrichment, and beyond toys and socialization, food provides a key element to their mental and physical health. To meet their nutritional needs, and inspire future visits to their beed feeder or dish, load their daily menu with tasty items bound to whet their palette and satisfy their hunger.
